I caught myself worrying the other day.  I was thinking about my future and making up stories in my mind’s eye as to what may or may not happen.  Then I began wondering, “where did all this worry come from?”  After some contemplation, I realized that I worried A LOT growing up!  In that moment, I took some space to breathe and acknowledge “worry.” I told myself, “I do not need to hold tightly to worry any longer.” When we worry, it takes us out of living in the moment.  Worry is literally making up stories of the future.

I am not pushing worry away, that would create friction within me. I am just not letting worry be the prominent emotion in my body. I will feel and acknowledge worry when it arises in my body and then let love prevail.

How does worry fit in your life?  Does worry influence the choices you make?  Does worry stop you from living a different way?

An invitation:  Think of something you are presently worrying about.  Pick one worry, so you don’t feel overwhelmed and start worrying about that! Maybe it’s work, someone’s health, a relative, life after death, whatever it may be.  Once you have it in your mind, take some space to welcome worry.  Breathe slowly and relax all of your muscles.  Feel whichever part of your body is touching the ground and continue to relax. Follow your breath to bring yourself into the present moment.  By practicing letting worry, a fear based emotion wash through you, you will be living more with love and acceptance of the moment.

  1. Sending hugs. My childhood worries were fear based….severe, irrational, debilitating nightly fear. I am surprised I made it through grade school and junior high. But here I am.

    1. Once we recognize a pattern in our life, we can then decide to make different choices. I hope this post gave you a way to help process worry when it shows up in your life. Sending you hugs, love and light.
